"On the Composition of Images, Signs & Ideas"
-- a book by Giordano Bruno.
-- Part 04: Seldon’s Maths Series.
Dear Reader,
It
is my pleasure,
and my honor, as an elected member
of the Foundation Encyclopedia
Dialectica [F.E.D.] General Council, and as a voting member of F.E.D., to share, with you, from time to time, as they are approved for public release by the F.E.D. General Council, key excerpts from the internal writings, and from the internal sayings, of our co-founder,
Karl Seldon.
This 4th release of
this new such
series is posted below
[Some E.D.
standard edits have been applied, in the version presented below, by the editors
of the F.E.D. Special Council for the Encyclopedia,
to the direct transcript of our co-founder’s
discourse].
In this 4th installment, Seldon reflects on a book by Giordano Bruno. Its title sounds alluringly ‘‘‘Seldonian’’’. Its content might not be at all. But its content mixes, if not unifies, various key Platonian and Aristotelian themes. Seldon reflects upon that book in relation to our pathways to the discovery of the NQ ‘first arithmetic for dialectic’, and ‘contra-Boolean algebra for dialectical logic’.
Seldon –
“Consider the English translation of a book by Giordano Bruno – On
the Composition of Images, Signs & Ideas -- who was ultimately a
tragic victim of the, “Catholic”, ‘‘‘cancel culture’’’ of his time. We are, of course, all about ‘the compositions/-combinations/coalescences/resolutions/complex
unifications of ideas [i.e., of categories, as well as of [their] signs & images].”
“But I don’t
think that Bruno invoked the “composition of … ideas” in quite our – ‘contra-Boolean’
-- way.”
“Much
of what Bruno wrote in this book still remains incomprehensible to me, a fact
which I hope will dissolve via further and deeper study. But, in this book, Bruno invokes the
Platonian «Eide», their «species», etc.,
quite explicitly. He also invokes a word,
translated into English by the word “place”, in a way that reminds of Aristotle’s
Topics, or «Topoi»
[“Places”], a major locus of Aristotle’s discussion of his
views on «dialektikê». I think that
Bruno was, in places therein, seeking some synthesis of Platon’s
early doctrines, with those of the later Aristotle.”
“Early
on, before his turn to the ‘«auto-kinesis» ontology’,
Platon assiduously pursued a kind of categorial doctrine, a doctrine of
the [eternal] Categories or “Kinds” – Platon’s doctrine of the “Dialectic of the Forms”,
i.e., of his «Arithmoi Eidetikoi»,
involving «arithmoi» – “numbers” – of interconnected
«IdeaV», in the ancient sense of number [«arithmos»],
not in our
modern sense.”
“However,
as far as we can tell, Platon did not pursue an «arithmetikê», a "character-language" or "algebra" for his «Eide» – an ‘arithmetic/algebra of/for dialectic’.”
“But
we have. We have
pursued, and we continue to pursue, arithmetics –
and algebras –of ‘contra-Boolean’ ‘‘‘classes’’’, of ‘modified/demystified Hegelian ‘‘‘categories’’’. We continue to seek ‘algebras of
categories’, indeed, of dialectical, ontological
categorial progressions, a la Hegel and Marx, as the key, core
representations of the categorial content of the Domains of experience, and of the
knowledges emerging from and flowing from the experiences
-- and the experiments -- of humanity within those Domains.
We have done so starting with our
explorations of the { XQ } axioms-systems for the ordinal-qualities-based,
algorithmic-heuristic arithmetics and algebras for
the ideographical, and pictographical, compact presentation
of dialectical relations and dialectical processes in general.”
“And
we have done so while jettisoning the Platonian insistences on his mysticism, on his [‘crypto-Parmenidean’] “eternality” and “immutability” of his «Eide» or «IdeaV»; finding the actual, empirical, sensuous Kinds -- and the ‘intro-inspectable
ideo-Kinds’ of human ‘ideo-ontology’ -- by relocating the «Eide» in the mutable,
psychohistorically evolving and progressing «mentalités» of humanity, i.e., in
the evolving -- and ‘meta-evolving’ – ‘Human Phenome’.”
