Internet Dialogue on the Current Transition of Power. GLOBAL STRATEGIC HYPOTHESES.

Internet Dialogue on

the Current Transition of Power.

GLOBAL STRATEGIC HYPOTHESES.

Dear Reader,

The following internet exchange, between yours truly and another concerned observer of the current power transition, is offered for your consideration [edited for typos/spelling, grammar, length, and for clarity] --

Interlocutor: “I have been very entertained but also troubled by the extremely polarized state of cultural discourse right now: how to bridge the gap?”

“Liberal elites can’t seem to understand the current global transformation without reducing it to the obvious scapegoats, and Trump loyalists are so mesmerized by libertarian dogma that they don’t see what is actually happening.”

“This is not simply an authoritarian takeover; power is shifting and that makes it more visible.”

“But is it shifting for the better?”

“Rather than argue about that, it is better to look at the situation without either hysterical moral panic or the ruthless glee of watching all the petty tyrants of the previous order’s middle management fall, or its supporters tremble in fear.”

“What is happening can be scary or exciting depending on how much you liked or were emotionally invested in the previous regime, but this doesn’t help get a good picture of what is happening, and in what ways power is merely restructuring.”

“I thought I would try and give a neutral perspective about what is happening.  I have spent a great deal of time philosophically arguing against there even being such a thing, and, admittedly, the liberal belief in the neutrality of science and therefore of AI is one of the dangers we are approaching. …”

“Right now there is a shift happening.  Whereas for a time it was seeming as if technofeudalism was arising around international institutions that would pressure states to impose the new order through ecological and medical (i.e. quasi-moral) justifications, with central bank digital currencies likely, now instead we have “stable coins”, tariffs, a dismantling of the whole US civil service and of soft power agencies like USAID.”

“All this is marketed as “nationalism” against “globalism”, but it seems like just an alternative route to technofeudalism, a furthering of the merger of big tech and state power but weighted more towards the ideals of tech-entrepreneur’s quasi-libertarianism.  Thoughts?”

M.D.: This discussion could be at least partly ‘de-nebulized’ through some attempt to define, first, “feudalism”, and then “techno-feudalism”.

Will the “techno-feudalism” that you ‘mantramize’ still be based upon wagéd and salaried work?

Or will those who work be, e.g., ‘corporately’, “owned”, like feudal serfs [by the manorial landed property that also “owned” their feudal lords]?

Will the corporate “elites” [it is a profound, self-demeaning and self-defeating, ‘capitulationist’ error to call tyrants by a name that means “the best of humanity”] be hereditary rulers, as in feudal aristocracies, or will some semblance of “meritocracy” decide who owns and rules the ruling ‘‘‘corporatist’’’ institutions?

It is a profound disservice to rational dialogue to bandy-about vague terms without any clarity as to their meaning.

I do, though, complement you…on your perception that what we are witnessing and participating in is a transition of power between one faction of the capitalist ruling class and another.

At least the Trump faction is far more oriented to the will and the well-being of the majority class electorate.  But that orientation is open to corruption and degeneration.
